Pathology:

Frequently, as part of a visit to the dermatologist, a piece of skin is removed. This may be done for various reasons - to determine the cause of a rash, to determine if the lession is cancerous or not, to remove skin cancer, because a skin lesion is causing problems, or even because a patient does not like the appearance of a skin lesion. For whatever reason that a piece of skin is removed, it is the standard of care that each and every specimen be analyzed with a microscope. This is processed on-site at our CLIA-certified pathology laboratory.
